Arrived safely in Lo De Marcos, Mexico!!!

3rd night camp at a place called Celestino. It's about an hour north of Mazatlan.

Good places are hard to get to.

Traffic in Mazatlan. Argh!

I am literally the only RV in the campground. It's wonderful. Right on the beach.

Access to ocean. No boogie boarding waves YET. I'll be waiting patiently.

Tourism has really been hurt due to all the negative press about Mexico.
I chose not to condemn the whole country for "stuff" happening around the border and
select areas. I'll just stay away from those areas. Not drive at night stay on the toll roads.

Lots of privacy.

Where is Lo De Marcos you might ask. Click here > http://www.moon.com/files/map-images/ptv_03_The-Nayarit-Coast.jpg

Mexico

Sunrise near Ajo, AZ
We left at 6:30 am. Wow! Never heard of such a thing!
Our caravan included a couple and a dog from British Columbia in a Class A RV,
a German man from B.C. in a Class B RV, a woman in a car with a dog, and of course Wilson and I in our Class C RV.

Crossing the border was a piece of cake. Getting our vehicle permits and tourists cards took 2 hrs. We unintentionally left the Saturday after school gets out for Xmas. There were many family's driving to Mexico to see relatives. Here is our first camp in Hermosillo.

                                                                 Traffic at a toll booth.
Our second camp in Las Glorias.

Beautiful sunsets along the coast

December 15th: We're in Yuma, Az today doing some last minute prep on the camper before Eric heads south. This is a huge RV town with RV parks, neighborhoods, sales, rental and storage. A lot of people come here and park out in the desert, then ride their ATVs around over the sand dunes, which looks like a blast.

We also saw Slab City where Gen. Patton used to train his forces in the desert. The slabs used to support houses and barracks, but everything was done away with except the cement slabs they were built on. The area has been taken over by squatters in their RVs, tents and mobile homes. Amazing!

Then we saw Salvation Rock, which is hard to describe, but looks like a work in progress. Lots of bright paint slathered over a huge area of rocks and boulders, with various Bible passages printed out here and there.

Spent one night at a park near the Salton Sea in the CA desert. It is huge salt water lake that is fed by the Colorado and Mexicali Rivers. The salt content keeps increasing and killing a lot of the fish that were introduced to it, except the Tilapia are flourishing. Also, there can be 400 different species of migrating birds here during the winter months, coming from and going to various locations, but stopping to meet up here every year.

I'm heading home for the Holidays in a day or two, then will meet up with Eric and Wilson again to celebrate New Years.

Beautiful Sunshine!!! Somebody said the Cochella Valley is the
warmest area in the country in the winter on average. Yuma claims
to have more days with sunshine than any other city in the country.

Well we're still in Malibu preparing to leave in the next couple days. It's been great spending time with Eric's brother Michael, and Michael's adorable girlfriend, Kim. He's been the best host ever!

Malibu Pier

We've done some great hiking here in the Santa Monica Mountains! Wilson loves it! One trail in particular was amazing, with the path cut into the side of the hill and 360* views! We enjoyed a fun bike ride on the Boardwalk down Santa Monica and Venice Beach, a must do when you visit this area.

I was also able to see a dear old friend, who moved with me to LA 30 years ago and still lives here, as well as my nephew Stephen, who is a joy! So we've had the best of all worlds here and it's a little hard to leave. (Wish we'd had the time to see my other friends here, but that will have to wait till next time.)

But forward and onward to new sights and new adventures.
New Adventures?

New Adventures?
We are ready for more, and of course so grateful that we are in the position to head out and find yet more fun stuff to do! Can't beat it! And the sun and warmth are icing on the cake! -Gayle
